Terms of Use

Last updated August 28, 2026

WateringTimes is an informational reference for California watering rules, plant water needs and landscape water budgets. Using the site means accepting the terms below. If they do not suit you, please do not use the site.

What this site is, and what it is not

Everything here is computed from public sources: the adopted state landscape ordinance and its climate table, the state plant water use classification, published manufacturer specifications, and water suppliers’ own published rules. Each page names its sources and the date they were read.

Nothing on this site is advice of any kind, professional, regulatory or otherwise. The numbers are estimates and the summaries are our reading of public documents. Your water supplier, your city and your permit reviewer decide what applies to your property, and their word settles any disagreement with a page here.

Rules change, and pages can fall behind

Watering schedules, drought stages, fines and rebate rates change by declaration, sometimes overnight. We verify each page against primary sources and print the date we did it, which is the honest way to say that a page is a snapshot rather than a live feed.

Before you act on anything that matters, particularly a rebate application or a permit submission, confirm the current terms with the agency itself using the source links on the page. If you find something stale or wrong, tell us and we will fix it.

Using the content

Read it, print it, use it to plan your yard, share a link, or quote a page in a client report with attribution. That is what it is for.

What we ask you not to do: republish our compiled datasets or page content wholesale as your own, present our figures as an official agency position, or hammer the site with automated requests in a way that degrades it for other people.

The underlying public data belongs to the agencies that published it. Our work is the collection, verification, computation and writing on top of it.

No warranty and limits on liability

The site is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error free, or current at the moment you read it.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of water, plants, money, rebate eligibility or permit approval, arising from your use of this site or reliance on anything published here.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Changes and contact

These terms can change as the site grows, and the date at the top moves when they do. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the revised terms.
