Exceptions to the Burbank rules
- Attended hand watering is allowed any day, but outside 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Stage III. Low-volume and drip systems retain the assigned-day limit (BWP schedule; BMC 8-2-304.A.1, C.1, C.3).
- The ordinance excludes recycled water and water needed for public health, safety or essential public services (BMC 8-2-303).
- No irrigation on rainy days or for at least two days afterward. Brief irrigation adjustment or repair has an hour exception (BMC 8-2-304.A.1-2).
- Prevent overspray and runoff; promptly repair leaks; vehicle washing needs a bucket or self-closing nozzle. Hardscape washing has narrow safety and sanitary exceptions (BMC 8-2-304.A.3-6).
- Stage III prohibits outdoor misters and requires covers on pools, wading pools and spas when unused. Filling ornamental water bodies without recycled water is prohibited (BMC 8-2-304.B.3, C.2, C.4).
Fines in Burbank
- 1BMC 8-2-306 requires one courtesy notice before an administrative citation.
- 2BWP's current schedule page lists $100 for the first violation, $200 for the second and $500 for each later violation. It links a request-for-appeal form.
Report water waste
Use Report Waste on BWP's Watering Schedule page. BWP says to allow up to three weeks for action and submit another report if the waste continues.
Here a penalty starts at $100, after a courtesy notice. The personal watering plan prints your days and the minutes for every zone, every month, for $19 once. See the plan
Burbank watering questions
Does my address change Burbank's watering days?
No. BWP assigns Tuesday and Saturday from April through October and Saturday from November through March to all addresses. BMC 8-2-304.B.2 and C.1 do not split the schedule by address parity.
How long can Burbank sprinklers run?
BWP publishes a maximum of 15 minutes per irrigation station. BMC 8-2-304 describes this as a daily station limit. Low-volume systems needing longer runs are exempt from the minute cap.
Does Burbank exempt drip irrigation from watering days?
No. BWP's current page expressly keeps low-volume and drip systems on the assigned days. Their exception removes the 15-minute limit, not the two-day summer or one-day winter schedule.
What are Burbank's winter watering hours?
The city notice prints before 9 a.m. or after 6 p.m. on the assigned day. The linked ordinance additionally bars automatic irrigation during daylight hours from November through March (BMC 8-2-304.A.2).
Can I hand water on another day in Burbank?
BWP's Stage III page allows attended hand watering any day, before 9 a.m. or after 6 p.m. The daytime restriction extends to hand watering under BMC 8-2-304.C.3.
What fines does BWP list for water waste?
The BWP schedule lists $100, $200 and $500 for successive violations. BMC 8-2-306 requires a courtesy notice before a citation. Use BWP's linked appeal form to contest a citation.
