Exceptions to the Ripon rules

  • No landscape irrigation during or for 48 hours after measurable rainfall (city General Water Conservation Rules).
  • Excessive runoff means continuous flow 150 feet from the property or lasting more than five minutes. Repair leaks within 48 hours of discovery (city General Water Conservation Rules).
  • Vehicle, boat, RV and building washing follows the assigned days and hours and requires an automatic shut-off nozzle (city General Water Conservation Rules).
  • Hardscape washing is prohibited except for sanitation, health, safety or fire protection. Decorative water features must recirculate (city General Water Conservation Rules).

Fines in Ripon

  1. 1The city publishes a written warning, then $50 for the first violation, $100 for the second, $200 for the third and $400 for additional violations within one year (Water Conservation page, Penalties).
  2. 2RMC 13.04.310 authorizes conservation penalties by resolution. The separate infraction maxima in 13.04.580 are $150, $300 and $600; these differ from the conservation notice ladder.

Who supplies the homes covered by Ripon's schedule?

The City of Ripon operates the water system and bills its customers. Public Works handles distribution and conservation. Check the supplier on the bill before applying the city schedule.

What changes in Ripon during winter?

From November through February, Ripon's published rules reduce watering to Saturday for even addresses and Sunday for odd addresses. The 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. restriction remains.

Does Ripon have a sprinkler minute cap?

The city conservation page states no per-station minute cap. It separately defines excessive runoff as continuous flow 150 feet from the property or lasting more than five minutes.

What does Ripon require after rain?
